Celebration Time

This is the poster for the Star Wars Celebration IV event, designed by John Alvin. "Over the iconic Tatooine sunset we see what Luke can somehow sense as he first encounters his own destiny," he said.

The Star Wars website went even further: "Over the past 30 years, millions of Star Wars fans the world over have been touched by that scene, and inspired to look to their own personal horizons."

Now, I have to admit, I was awestruck by this scene when I first saw it. The reason, however, is because it is simply a beautifully shot scene, one that became iconic over time (though having said that, plenty from Star Wars became iconic over time).

I read of this some time ago, and having had some time to think about it, despite my initial misgivings, the scene did achieve something: I was struck by its beauty. Over time, other films, other movies, other works of art have inspired similar feelings as well, to the point that I decided that this is what I want to do. Making films to affect people, to tell of truths, and to ultimately make a change in the world.

Idealistic? Maybe.

But then again, so was Luke.
